About Sandwiches

The beloved sandwich dates back to Neolithic times, when our ancestors are said to have tucked meat and herbs between flatbread as a mainstay meal. In the Middle Ages, stale bread was actually used as a serving plate, and by eating the food upon these "plates", a sort of medieval sandwich was born. It wasn't until the 19th century that the sandwich made its way into the diet of the aristocracy, and in this era, dainty classics such as the tea sandwich came to be.
