About Sandwiches
The beloved sandwich dates back to Neolithic times, when our ancestors are said to have tucked meat and herbs between flatbread as a mainstay meal. In the Middle Ages, stale bread was actually used as a serving plate, and by eating the food upon these "plates", a sort of medieval sandwich was born. It wasn't until the 19th century that the sandwich made its way into the diet of the aristocracy, and in this era, dainty classics such as the tea sandwich came to be.
Today, the sandwich takes shape in numerous forms around the world - inside a pita, between sliced bread, in buns and baguettes, and including any meat, vegetable, condiment, and sauce known to man. Within the last century, the sandwich has become a staple for all households, and we enjoy its many variations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
